EditDescription
This CD-ROM is a collection of various utilities for MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, Amiga OS, and Mac OS X that are useful users of 8-Bit Commodore Business Machines branded computers. You will find completely ready-to-use software in the following categories:
- Cross-Development – C and Assembly Compilers targeting 6502 Machines
- Modem Emulators – Software that allows any RS-232 device to access the internet via raw sockets.
- Disk Transfer Utilities – Software that allows you to utilize real CBM disk drives and/or allows the management of standard disk image files.
- Emulators – Software that allows you to emulate CBM Machines
The disk is organized into target operating systems first, and then into the above categories. Some of the more important software on this disk:
- GUI4CBM4WIN 0.6.5.1 / OpenCBM – This is located under the Windows folder and allows any Windows 2000 or newer installation of Windows to utilize standard CBM drives via X-cables (XM1541, XA1541) which plug into a PC’s parallel port.
- WinVICE 1.22 – This is the most widely used CBM emulator package.
- StarCommander 0.82 – This is the MS-DOS based equivalent of GUI4CBM4WIN which allows any X-cable (X1541, XA1541, XE1541, XM1541) to utilize standard CBM drives. This software does not work reliably in Windows!
- 64HDD – This is the only viable hard drive emulation software for CBM 8-bit computers. This software is extremely timing critical and must be run from MS-DOS with USB-Device Emulation turned OFF in the BIOS of the PC. 64HDD is capable of serving as a HD server via two X-cables (X1541, XE1541).
- CC65 – This is probably the most widely used Cross Development package for 6502 based computers such as the CBM 8-bit line. This full featured package includes an ANSI-C compiler, Assembler and configurable Linker. It also includes a robust library set including loadable driver support.
